Where did my title go?
Lately I seem to be posting about a week behind, but with this post I'll be catching up! (I'm aware myself that it probably won't last long.)
It's beginning to feel as if we're semi-permanent fixtures at the Down East Partnership for Children. We're attending a play group there this summer (no photos yet) and have been using their playground as a family outing. I've even convinced Gerald to sign up for a workshop with me! It's funny how you can be away from a place for 7 years and people still recognize you, even if they never knew your name. That can be good or bad, but in my case, it's nice to be remembered. I guess that's partially how I was offered a spot as a committee member, but I don't have any details or information yet.
Here are the kids at the playground on a not-so-flaming-hot day.

We've had several more opportunities to learn about animals and insects.
- Saturday night and Sunday morning, there was a tiny bunny by the carport and side yard. We're all thinking he's living under a bushy area of growth under the apple tree in the edge of our neighbors' yard. It's the perfect place for him to escape those black kitties.
- The Kildeer birds that always nest around the yard have had their babies. We found a nest full of eggs behind the garden a couple of weeks ago, and right around that time we starting seeing the babies. Their eggs look like rocks and since they nest on the ground, it's perfect camouflage. In case you've never seen them in action, the adults flap about like they are hurt to lure you away from the nest. They make a terrible squealy sqwak, but it's fun to watch them. We have also seen them chase crows away!
- This past Saturday, we met Mandy at Imagination Station where Tim is working as a Science Educator. (He gets to drive the Science on Wheels van around and present all kinds of experiments and animal programs to schools and child care centers etc. I think it's a pretty cool job.) We got to check out some animals and exhibits too. We decided to pay for a family membership, because Enid enjoyed it and they are in serious need of funds. (more on that in a jiffy) Enid also donated some change to them. She's a change donating fool I tell ya!
Back to Imagination Station for a minute... In 2000, a fire in the middle of the night gutted the old courthouse building they are in, and all of the reptiles were lost. After some rebuilding, they are still under crippling debt and 2/3 of the building is still unusable. Please take the time to watch this video and then donate or pass the word along. What happened stinks royally, but they are getting a little funding from the county soon!
To bring this post to an end, here's a photo inspired by photos from AmyV. and Easy on the Meat. It shows you Enid's current ritual of OTC products. The poor child is having an eye issue and is seeing the doctor this afternoon. I'll keep you posted, but it's probably nothing. She's been cleared of Retinopathy of Prematurity, so this can't be too serious in comparison.
