Harvest Schmarvest (Lughnasadh)

Around here, it looks as if a lot of farms have had a rough go of it. There are short corn stalks turning brown and tomatoes that won't ripen.  We were fortunate to get the bunches of veggies we got from our own garden. It's pretty much fizzled out now.

Falling midway between Summer Solstice and Autumnal Equinox is the holiday of Lughnasadh. It is the Celtic harvest festival that takes its name from the Irish god Lugh, one of the chief gods of the Tuatha De Danann.  At this time, the days suddenly seem to shorten and the nights grow longer.

Sometimes it is called the Autumn Feast, but this dang heat is anything but fall-like.
