A to Z: Going Green!
This is from the Educationtipster blog. Just wanted to share. I've added some comments in parentheses.
Arrange a wildlife refuge in your backyard with a birdbath, bird feeder, and plants that attract birds and other animals. (This has become a love of mine, though I still can't remember what half of the birds are!)
Buy products made from recycled materials.
Close the refrigerator door to save lots of energy. (ours beeps at you!)
Donate your old toys. (let me add that in light of all the book banning & unsafe toys, this one is changing!)
Eat organic foods. (I could go on and on about this one!)
Feed the birds.
Grow a garden. (another one of my favorites)
Hold on to your helium balloons that can hurt animals when they fall to the ground.
Insulate your home by blocking drafts by doors and windows. (dude, stuff a sock already!)
Join with your friends to clean up the neighborhood.
Keep stuff in a box until you can reuse it. (huh??)
Light your home with compact fluorescent bulbs.
Make scratchpads with old paper. (Enid has a shelf full of it!)
Nurture the soil with coffee grinds, eggshells and other compost. (been there done that)
Omit aerosols from your shopping list because they damage the ozone layer.
Plant a tree. (or two or three or...)
Quit throwing away batteries with hazardous chemicals. Recharge them instead. (crap, some can be recycled!)
Rethink, Reuse, Recycle!
Stop a leak. (yeah Mandy, come on!)
Turn off the lights. (this is so engrained into Enid that she fusses at people)
Use paper on both sides.
Visit a recycling center to see all the different things that can be recycled. (what a great field trip!)
Write a letter to the newspaper encouraging your neighbors to recycle.
eXercise your body while collecting tin cans.
Yell at a litterbug. (around here you better be wearing a vest)
Zero in on helping the earth!
