Enid is 6!

Friday at noon, I went to Morning Song for Enid's birthday celebration, and Gerald tagged along to surprise Enid. There was a lovely little celebration with a story about Enid's life and a few songs, and she got to snuff out her ring of 6 candles. Each child presented Enid with a flower, and there was also a booklet of "cards" they had drawn. She also received a lovely felted pocket full of colored pencils and a little sketchpad. The children had helped Ms Joya make a cake, and we took strawberries and bananas. So magical for her!

Speaking of magical... As I posted previously, Enid asked for a Harry Potter themed party this year, and we obliged. We had Troll Bogey Punch, Forbidden Forest complete with Unicorn's Blood, Herbology, Parchment Scrolls, Pumpkin Pasties, and the cupcakes were straight from the Owlery. I was especially happy with my work on those!

Oh yeah... and Gerald dressed up as Harry Potter (with lightening scar temporary tattoo) and surprised Enid. She knew I was dressing up, but she had no idea what I'd look like as (chubby) Luna Lovegood until I came downstairs. I had tried to curl her hair since she was Hermione, but it wasn't easy. It's so fine and floppy that even the curling iron didn't help! She made an awesome Hermione though. The sweater, Time Turner, wand and tie were all bought online pretty darn cheap, but the rest were Target specials. Gotta love $10 shoes!

**ETA** Apparently there are people who don't know who Luna Lovegood is! Haha! Here is the "look" I was going for from Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (movie #6). Although Gerald's costume was all from the Spirit Halloween store, I "made" mine. I found a practically-identical jacket at Goodwill, but it was much too small so I settled on the one above instead. I also bought the skirt there, shortened it and then painted the designs on. I cut the Spectrespecs (glasses) out of patterned cardstock, and made radish earrings and a Butterbeer cork necklace (to keep the Nargles away of course!).

We did have the Scrap Exchange come out for the first hour and the kids made stuff like wands and capes... all that wizardy stuff. Josh, although only a kid at heart, made an awesome Nagini (Voldemort's snake) out of a strip of foam. It had a red felt tongue and test tube fangs. How clever!

It really was a great party. After it was all said and done, I was so glad we didn't really go overboard and that what we did do was just right!

I'm sorry I never remember to get over to your blog here. I have been SO bad about blogging this year. I need a new resolution to be better. Well, that is one FANTASTIC and magical party! Those cupcakes are incredible and so cool! Of course, I know who Luna Lovegood is, and you looked great, but probably the brown hair threw some people off, lol. I cannot believe how old Enid is. She is so cute and pretty, and makes a beautiful wizarding witch! I wanna go live at Hogwarts, myself. And I'm not ready for the movies to be over either!!

Thanks, Tammy! Your Halloween party looked awesome as usual. I love the costumes you guys wore!

Yeah, didn't want a wig or bleached hair. haha I was originally thinking I'd be Professor Trelawney, but I decided Luna was better and probably easier.

Enid has asked about the books so much that I think we'll start reading the first one soon.
