Halloween 2010 (catching up!)

The Friday before Halloween, there was a simple celebration at Morning Song. There was face painting, wagon hay rides, simple trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, and whip cream making. The kids and Joya had made pumpkin pies and she had popped a huge basket full of popcorn!

For face painting, Enid chose to be a fairy. She sat so still, and the other kids were extremely patient for their turns!

I was in charge of a large pumpkin, and the same few children stuck with me and helped clean it out. When the guts were finally cleared away, my hands were frozen! That big pumpkin was sooo cold! Another mom stepped in to help with the face. She's from Japan, so she was really nervous about her Jack-o-lantern face. I think she did a great job!

Enid's treats were root babies (flower bulbs), popcorn, and peanuts. She had never shelled her own before, and she loved them!

She did an amazing job pulling two of her friends all around the yard for a hay ride, then Joya got her exercise pulling the three of them! Whew!

Since it was also Gerald's birthday that weekend, Clayton came back for another visit. We took him to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Los Tres Magueyes, and lo and behold, there were Batman's enemies cavorting over dinner. We were all so impressed that we snapped this photo.

This year, we decided that since our neighborhood is so quiet at Halloween and Gerald didn't have to work that all three of us would go trick-or-treating in the large neighborhood behind ours. It would have been pointless to hang around and pass out candy to just a handful of kids. Just like for her birthday party, Gerald wore a surprise costume for Enid. You see, she had been joking about him being a leprechaun for quite some time... several years I think. So, when we were out Harry Potter shopping a while back, he picked up a simple leprechaun costume too! She got a kick out of it, and several adults, including a nice Irish grandma, commented on it.

We were just about the only adults dressed up, unless you want to count the two or three in a huge group of slightly-intoxicated parents walking in a toddler and stroller caravan. Man, they were a nightmare, so we quickly by-passed a couple of houses to get ahead of them as they made their way down a side street. Anyway... there was this one other lady who was a delightful pumpkin. It was a fun night, and it wasn't at all humid and nasty like last year!

The next day, our dentist office was collecting candy to send overseas to the troops. They were paying kids $1 per pound, and Enid had right at a pound. Shhh... that's because we kept the really good chocolates at home!
