Children's Book Week - May 12-18

I have always loved children's books. Even before teaching and having Enid, I would read them and dream about illustrating books some day. My favorite part of working in the bookstore was always the kid's section... storytime, costumed characters visiting, author signings... what a wonderful world to get lost in.

It's 89 years after it's conception and Children's Book Week is upon us again. It's exciting to me just seeing kids enjoy books! There might be celebrations in your area, so check your local schools, libraries, bookstores, and resource centers.

Toys for Tots also has a
Literacy Program that you can donate new books or as little as a "Buck a Book" so that all children get the chance to read. Scholastic is a partner in this venture, and their own book clubs are a great, affordable way to get your own children reading. I've used them through work many times, and teachers can sign up to earn LOTS of freebies for their students and classrooms.
