Wirtz, VA for Christmas
The every other year plan landed us at the Big Zigs' for the week of Christmas. The trip up only took a little over 3 hours, but Enid had her first big car explosion on the way home after eating at Wendy's. It was so unpleasant that we had to throw out the car seat. I've never seen that much come out of one person. Beyond ick.
Anyway, these aren't necessarily in the order that they occurred. It was a pretty relaxing week with movies at "home" and at the theater (Despereaux was too cute.), lots of Wii & XBox 360, cooking/baking, a tiny bit of shopping, and just hanging out.
One day, we drove into Roanoke for the "Fashions for Evergreens" display at the Hotel Roanoke, which I'd love to go stay in some time. Here are some of my favorite trees etc. The Wizard of Oz display was awesome! There was a Christmas tree busting through the window and the Wicked Witch of the East was squashed and the furniture was tossed about and there were letters to Dorothy in the mailbox. Oh, and the tree for the contest had the twister in it with the little house and fence. The Kroger Mid-Atlantic display had Santa pushing a shopping cart with a Christmas tree full of canned goods leaning inside. There were some really creative ideas, though the tree display was similar to the one we saw at the Imperial Centre.
Kitchen merriment was had by Caitlyn and Enid on several occasions. They made garlic bread and chocolate chip cookies with Grandma and then they made a gingerbread tree with Gerald.
It's not black, but Caitlyn's pink Hannah Montana rub-on streak is as close as she's come so far. I bought some spray hair color on clearance after Halloween, so we'll get to it eventually. The time just hasn't been right yet.

Santa came and left some goodies of course... a washing machine, a cradle & changing table, a bath tub set, a baby sling, a cash register, the Ladybug Game, and a Sleeping Beauty DVD. In her stocking was a Christmas ballerina Barbie, Sanrio stampers, Hello Kitty stickers, a pegasus figurine, and a WallE view master set. When Enid saw the bath tub set, she said, "I really, really wanted this for Christmas for my babies." at least three times. Santa did awfully good work this year apparently. I think he took Mommy's advice and got almost everything when it was super cheap on sale or clearance. Enid isĀ adamantĀ the elves made that cash register for Target.

By one o'clock that afternoon, we all felt like taking a nap. Grandma, Enid, & Nicki did just that.

PS: See the art blog soon for a photo of the quilt Grandma made for Enid.
