A Nash County Observation... or several
While walking around a few different stores in Rocky Mount recently, I remembered something that I hadn't seen in a while. People leave food packaging and cups all over the place here. I don't remember ever seeing that in the other places we've lived, but here it's a common occurrence. Today there was a Hardees' cup with lipstick on it just sitting on an end cap in the middle of decorative statues. It's not like there's a shortage of trash cans.
Oh... Writing this post actually just reminded me that people steal things and leave the packaging behind a lot around here as well... Barbie clothes minus the purse & shoes, one stick of lip balm out of a multi-pack, a cheap ink pen, etc etc. A few months ago there was a case-sized display of what I think was Neopets plush on a toy shelf at Target, and every single one of them had the tag missing because they have online codes on them.
The ABC store has expensive booze locked up here, but in Wilson and VA I've never seen that.
One of the Andy's restaurants has to keep their kids meal toy case locked, and employees can't even get in it because the darn things get stolen. I'm talking about little made-in-China plastic Veggie Tales bracelets. Seriously.
AND My guess would be that 90% of the people I hold doors for don't say a simple "thank you". I always say "you're welcome" anyway.
I'm sure I could go on... Can you tell I'm ready to move away from here??

Yuck. Crazy. I can the eagerness to want to move. People who can offer a simple 'thank you' when you hold the door for them grind on my nerves.
I think there's a special place for people who steal, even petty things like pens and NeoPet codes. *crazy*
One thing that really drove me crazy when we first moved to VA, actually it still bothers me, is the fact that SO many people here smoke and feel they're free to dispose of their butts anywhere they please. The amount of styrofoam in VA makes me cringe too. I can't recall the last time I had seen a beverage in or take out box made of styrofoam while living in CA...many years.
The whole smoking thing is everywhere here. We're in tobacco country, I'm afraid.
I found a party store in Raleigh that sells the disposable tableware that's made out of corn etc. You can throw them right into your compost heap!
Yeah the styrofoam crap drives me crazy here! The smoking is terrible, but you know you are out numbered here when on you kids state mural at school has tobacco on it, your not on the winning side of that battle of I thought there was not suppose to be any drugs or alchohol or violence????.
like Wendy says were in tobacco country.
The products made of cornstarch are really cool! I go to a coffee shop that uses that and I cut it up and throw it in the compost! it works! I have just learned cutting it in smaller pieces makes if biodegrate faster. than throwing the whole cup in. (we wanted to see if it really worked, so the whole cup went in!)
Yeah, are there really any good uses for tobacco?? If so, please enlighten me.
We went to a coffee shop with the corn cups once. I think it was in FL.
