Stupidity or Audacity? (and a side thought)

Earlier this afternoon, I was sitting here in the living room working on homework and it was very quiet, because Enid was upstairs having "quiet time". I heard that squeaking noise you hear when the outside spigot turns on, so I got up and walked out onto the screen porch to look. There was a freaking worker from the house they're building across the road beside us filling a bucket with water from our hose! He didn't see me there, so I spoke up and said "Do you mind not taking my water?!?" and for some reason "please" as an afterthought. He mumbled something that I think was English like "Oh, sorry" as he walked away. I'm sure I was looking at him like he was Hagrid's 3-headed dog, Fluffy. Then it hit me that we'd be paying for that water he stole. Gerald said I should have told the guy to pour the bucket of water out in our lawn, but I was so dumbfounded I didn't think of that.

After I told Gerald, he called Savvy Homes, because their sign is in front of the lots beside us. Even after explaining where we were, the not-so-savvy lady on the phone told him that it wasn't them, because they don't have workers out here today so he needed to call ForeverHome. Uh, apparently she is clueless. Forever Home doesn't build over here, they build the homes on the other side of the neighborhood. All of the lots here are Savvy Homes, and the ridiculous trailer Savvy set up as an office is right beside us. So, when Gerald came home from work, he called Savvy back and told the lady he was looking right at the sign across from us blah blah blah. She said that they shouldn't be doing that because they have access to water on the lot. Huh? This is the boiling point. To make a long story short(er), she is notifying the supervisor. Heck, if he had knocked on the door and said they needed some water, we might have said yes.

Seriously. I hate living in this dang neighborhood with all this construction. One morning a couple of months ago, we heard a racket right after we came downstairs for breakfast, and Gerald looked down the alley (garages are built behind some houses off an alley) and saw paving equipment. No one had notified any of the residents that they were going to pave, so some people would have been stuck and not been able to get their cars out to go to work etc. Gerald ran out there and the guy said he caught them just in time, because they were starting to pave. He moved my car out of the garage and around to the front of the house. Our neighbor, Chris, said that he went out right after that to leave for work. Good thing he timed it right!

It was nice for a long time before someone decided building cheaper homes quicker would get the market back on its feet (The company that built this house we're leasing went bankrupt.), and we didn't have any houses behind us. I feel like they're closing in on us, and it's getting very uncomfortable. I am so glad we're only leasing. We wouldn't buy this house now after we've lived in it anyway. Shortcuts don't pay off when it comes to houses. The bright side is that we have the biggest lot because we're on the end and have a side yard. Oh, and the fact that the lot between Chris & Sara's house and ours has been empty all this time.

On a side note, we got some mail for our neighbors across the street today. They're really nice, and we've gotten together for the kids to play outside some and at the pool. Well, he works, she's a stay-at-home mom, her mom lives with them, and they have a 5-year-old and a 3 or 4-year-old with a 3rd on the way. Anyway, the mail we got for them is basically a post card about qualifying for food stamps etc. I'm sorry, but if you can afford that house with the shmancy porch furniture, Taekwondo lessons for both kids, and then you go and
plan a 3rd child, then you don't deserve any assistance. But that's just me, right?
