Soccer, Art, College, & Storytelling News
In case I forget later on... I inquired about soccer here, and the city itself doesn't offer it to children as young as Enid (not surprising around here). There's a local association that does offer it through the YMCA, but she won't be playing soccer this spring. We missed the registration deadline by a few weeks (wish I had known sooner), and there's no way I'm forking over an extra 30-something dollars just to register her late. It's already a $50 fee to start. We'll just hold out for fall.
Her second choice was art (of course), so we're thinking of putting her in the preschool age class at the Arts Center. The next one starts Tuesday, so we're missing that one. Maybe she can get in on the one after that.
I spoke with my former college advisor/instructor, Mrs. Wilder. She informed me that they don't teach any of the special education classes I was going back to take during the summer, so that will wait until at least fall. I am, however, looking into a few others that are offered as ConEd.
Tuesday night, we took Enid to Braswell Memorial Library for a performance by the Two Bells, an interactive tandem storytelling couple from Durham, NC. They were awesome, and the place got pretty packed. Enid lost interest for a few minutes in the middle, but by the end she was clapping, singing, and laughing along. If you ever get the chance to see them, "Get ready to expand your mind or go back in time." Their theme song was catchy, and Enid and I have been singing it since. "Said it's all in a book. Come on let's take a look. Come on let's take a look, right now." It reminded me of how much I enjoyed my children's literature course... memorizing stories and making them your own to share wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Even performing in front of people with no safety net was fun.
